An early-engineer role building a platform that makes self-hosting so easy people forget they're doing it

Role overview

About Clovyr

Clovyr makes it super easy for people and businesses of all technical skill levels to find and use software that treats them better than data-hungry SaaS apps. We help open source projects (especially those with complex tech stacks) grow their community of contributors and get their apps into more people’s hands. The Clovyr platform makes self-hosting anywhere from a home server to your own cloud account simple and safe.

We care deeply about privacy-conscious design, re-decentralizing the web, and building systems that give people choice and control without sacrificing usability.

Clovyr is recently funded and growing quickly! ☘️

About the Front-end Engineer role:

This is a technical role that reports to the VP of Engineering.

  • Strong applicants will have experience implementing end-to-end webapps or doing other back-end engineering and devops work, but chosen to focus more on the front-end as an area of interest
  • Work with the product and engineering team to turn the product vision into user-visible features
  • In addition to implementation, you'll be actively involved in product definition and design, with a real impact on the UI/UX of the overall platform
  • Clovyr does a lot in the browser that others might do server-side. To be great at this role, you're excited to think of "front-end" as fundamental to our core product.

Your Experience & Skills:

  • Skilled with Vue, TypeScript, and JavaScript, and a wizard with CSS
  • Comfortable navigating a back-end service like Node
  • Some design via Figma or Photoshop. We use a designer, but you might need to fill in some assets on the fly.
  • When building a feature, you consider whether adding another npm dependency is the best way to do it
  • Able to connect interface elements to APIs and can provide requirements for APIs as they're being built
  • Implement interfaces that demonstrate great UX, with and without the input of a dedicated designer
  • Follow existing brand style guides and independently fill in the gaps where decisions have yet to be made
  • Experience with WASM a plus

This role might be a great fit if you:

  • Have a deep interest in the problems that Clovyr works on, from the technical (how can we make self-hosting so simple that non-technical people delight in doing it) to the practical (why is a world where more people and businesses run their own software desirable)?
  • Aren't afraid to connect a brand new API, test a feature end to end, and troubleshoot in the weeds
  • Care deeply about making hard things easy via outstanding UX
  • Are opinionated about setting defaults and progressive education that aligns business outcomes with happy users
  • Like getting creative about how to encourage user behavior that might be new or unfamiliar

Our culture

Clovyr's tools exist in support of a freer, more democratic world. We build systems that assume privacy is a human right, freedom of speech does not imply freedom from consequences, and free open-source software is free as in "free puppy."

People are unique, teams are diverse. Our leadership has advocated and organized for more systemic and intersectional inclusion in tech for more than 15 years.

Clovyr is an equal opportunity employer.
